🌿 The Spirit of the Place
1. Why is the view from instants d'Absolu – Ecolodge & Spa considered one of the most picturesque in Auvergne?
Nestled within a protected Natural Area and Natura 2000 site, the lodge offers a raw, wild panorama with zero visual pollution. Here, the “wow” factor isn’t a marketing pitch—it is a deep immersion into a millennial landscape of volcanoes and high-altitude pastures, recognized by National Geographic as a true “end-of-the-world” experience.
2. Why is instants d'Absolu defined as an "ecolodge"? What does it mean?
Created in 2010 based on pure intuition, our lodge follows the three fundamental pillars of sustainable hospitality expressed in the study « ECOLODGES : EXPLORING OPPORTUNIES FOR SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS »: being located in the heart of a natural park, protecting the environment through preservation and awareness, and local community engagement. It is a sanctuary that provides food and shelter in total harmony with the great outdoors.
3. How does your ecolodge qualify as a "Luxury" destination?
At instants d’Absolu, luxury is found in craftsmanship and character, creating an authentic “Highlands” atmosphere far from standard hotel chains. Every object has been chosen with love; our guests often say the house has a “soul.” Furthermore, being an intimate, isolated home at high altitude entails significant logistical and operational commitments, which define our exclusive positioning.
4. How does the lodge fit into the "HIP Hotels" selection?
We were selected for our “Highly Individual Property” character. This positions instants d’Absolu as an exceptional destination offering responsible luxury anchored in the volcanic terroir of Cantal. We are also a member of PURE, an international community dedicated to transformative travel.
5. Can we observe the sunrise or sunset from the lodge?
At an altitude of 3,770 ft (1,150 m) on a high plateau, the lodge offers magical moments that the most contemplative guests can enjoy from our unique “Moon Watcher” room, perched like a promontory. The moonrises and moonsets over the lake are equally breathtaking.
✨ Wellness & Gastronomy
6. People say your Spa is very different from a classic Spa. Can you introduce the "Boreal Spa"?
Our Spa has been designed for a deep reconnection with nature. It features a made-to-measure stainless-steel bath kept at body temperature to encourage total surrender (with underwater music and chromotherapy), an individual barrel steam bath with a view over the lake and volcanic summits, and a sauna opening onto the forest. The Spa offers a spiritual dimension focused on “mental wellness.” Our Thala-source® treatment is a Signature creation inspired by thalassotherapy, using our own spring water and volcanic clay.
7. Is the Spa available for private use?
Yes. Although designed as a space for shared silence, the Boreal Spa can be privatized in the morning for guests seeking absolute intimacy facing the lake and volcanoes.
8. Do you offer menus adapted to specific diets (Yoga/Detox)?
Absolutely. While we are connected to our local ecosystem (including local meats), we offer plant-based cuisine upon request. Our “Gastronomadic” approach—mindful dining—focuses on “just right” portions, inspired by the spirit of “Blue Zones,” to ensure you finish your meal feeling energized rather than saturated.
9. Which tinctorial (dye) plants are used at the ecolodge?
We use them holistically. Plants like St. John’s Wort and Yarrow are used in our Spa treatments and for autonomous “do-in” rituals. In the kitchen, Daniel incorporates pine buds, juniper berries, elderberries, and meadowsweet (delicious in our homemade ice cream). Finally, these plants are part of the very walls of our rooms, where Virginie from Atelier Peregreen works her magic. In 2024, she integrated macerated plant waste (flax, cotton, wool) into our wall paints. Every room features “Artemisia” (an eggshell white) paired with other plants for their vibrational colors. In 2025, Virginie was awarded the Prix des Talents du Luxe et de la Création (Luxury and Creative Talent Award) in the Innovation category, as well as the Harmonie Mutuelle Entrepreneur Health Award.
🚲 Activities & Outdoors
10. Why is Cantal considered the new paradise for Gravel and Mountain Biking?
The territory offers a wild riding experience unique in Europe: panoramic ridge roads, secret forest tracks, and mountain passes with almost no traffic. Our lodge serves as the perfect logistical base camp for these explorations.
11. What services do you offer for cycling and hiking groups?
We welcome small groups (12-14 people) with a secure storage room, personalized itineraries, gourmet picnic baskets featuring local products, and access to the Boreal Spa for optimal muscle recovery.
12. Can we rent bikes or be accompanied by a local guide?
Yes, we work with passionate local partners who provide high-quality equipment. Expert guides are also available to show you secret trails that aren’t on any map. This is our commitment to “Off the Beaten Path” travel.
13. What exclusive experiences do you offer to discover the "Secret Cantal"?
Our CANTAL GRAND SPECTACLE offer provides different approaches: joyful exploration, cultural inspiration, or through the prism of local craftsmanship and connection to the “Invisible.”
14. How does the immersion in the high pastures, proposed in collaboration with National Geographic, work?
CANTAL GRAND SPECTACLE is a 3-night bespoke immersion. Every stay is tailored to our guests after a personal exchange to understand your interests, your “great travel moments,” and any specific expectations or dietary needs. The adventurous flavour is what captured the attention of National Geographic UK.
🎒 Preparing My Stay
15. Is it easy to reach the lodge from Paris or internationally?
Yes. You can arrive by train (Paris to Clermont-Ferrand, then a local train to Neussargues, 7 miles from us) or by air via Clermont-Ferrand or Aurillac airports. We organize private transfers to ensure a serene arrival.
16. Is there Wi-Fi at the lodge? Or do you encourage a Digital Detox?
As a place dedicated to nature reconnection, we suggest a mindful approach to connectivity. Wi-Fi is available in a dedicated, cozy area in the lounge rather than being an automatic presence throughout the sanctuary.
17. What type of stay can I book?
We offer stays for individuals (couples or solo travelers) seeking rejuvenation, as well as private buy-outs for families, friends, or yoga retreats. With a dedicated meeting room, we also host executive seminars or board meetings.
18. What are the booking options and terms?
Availability is online, with early-bird discounts (15% off for bookings made 45+ days in advance). Terms vary by offer (flexible or non-refundable). We always recommend Safebooking insurance if your credit card does not provide coverage.
19. What is the maximum capacity for a private buy-out?
Ideally 12 to 16 people. Depending on your needs, we can accommodate up to 26 people, using triple occupancy in certain rooms.
20. How does the lodge assist international travel agencies?
We act as a “turnkey” logistical partner: managing transfers, handling private buy-outs, and mastering international standards to ensure a seamless and high-end guest experience.
21. What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in starts at 4:00 PM and check-out is by 11:00 AM. Early check-in and late check-out options can be requested online depending on our booking schedule.
22. Do you accept pets?
At the ecolodge, our animal friends are not accepted for several reasons, the first being respect for this wild environment. In addition, many people today suffer from allergies, particularly to animal hair. However,
it is possible to leave your dog or cat not far from the ecolodge. There are many host families in the Cantal region: https://www.animaute.fr/garde-animaux-cantal-15 & https://angelanimaux.blogspot.com/
23. Do you accept American Express?
Yes, we accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express, as well as bank checks and cash.
